Chanderi : Chanderi is a town of historical importance and a famous tourist place in Ashoknagar District of Madhya Pradesh. Chanderi is bordered by hills, lakes and forests and is covered with some monuments of the Bundela Rajputs and Malwa sultans.
Jageshwari Devi Temple : This temple is one of the famous temples and holy place in Chanderi. The temple is reached by mountain climbing a long flight of steps from the foot of the mount. A different approach to the temple is the vertical flight of staircase which descends from near the fort Kirti Durg. The major statue of the temple is the face of the goddess Jageshwari, which is placed in an open cave. The current temple has been manufactured around the cave to provide somewhere to stay the followers who come for Pooja and Darshan.
The Fort of Chanderi : The mount fort of Chanderi locate overlooking the town. According to a Sanskrit inscription the nucleus of the fort was built in 11th century by Kirttipala, a Pratihara king and was given name Kirtti-durga after its designer.
Koshak Mahal : On the secular buildings in Chanderi, This simple yet impressive building was built in 1445 as a victory memorial, located on the Isagarh road at a distance of 4 kilometres from Chanderi city. The famous palace is said to have been built by Mahmud Shah for his wife, Koshak, who gave birth to their child here.
Badal Mahal Gate : This structure, the most famous among all memorials in Chanderi, is located at the southern end of the inner city. Placed within one of the seven interlocking walls which enclosed explicit parts of the city, the darwaza (gate) was manufactured in the 15th century, through the time in power of Sultan Mahmood Shah Khilji-I.
Parmeshwar Tal : Parameshwar tal is a beautiful water reservoir that is situated half a mile to the north-west of Chanderi city. Parameshwar Tal was built by Bundela Rajput Kings.
Battisi Bavdi : Battisi Bawdi is a big stepwell that was built in1485 by Sultan Ghiyasuddin Shah in chanderi. The stepwell is approximately 40ft deep and gets its name from a flight of thirty two (32-Battisi) steps. Some other stepwells in Chanderi are Musa Quadin's Bawdi, Lal Bawdi, Qazion ki Bawdi, Aalia Bawdi, Chandai Bawdi, Ek Pathar ki Bawdi, Gol Bawdi, Chakla Bawdi and Rimjhai Bawdi. Most of the Bawdi�s (stepwell) are currently in cleaned out state with only a few still being used by home community.
Jama Masjid : The Jama Masjid, with a capability of holding more than 2000 peoples at the time of prayer, is the biggest and the oldest mosque in Chanderi and maybe all of Bundelkhand.
Shahjadi Ka Roza : It is a square building built completely of grey colored stonework. It must have initially been a tiny and beautiful structure.
Budhi(Old) Chanderi : Budhi chanderi located 14.4 km away from the city, have extensive ruins surrounded in jungles. During year 1969-70, almost 2,500 Brahamanical and Jains statues of the 10-11th centuries were collected there. A few Jain leftovers and rock-cut Jain statue were also traced.
ThruvanJi : Located 26 km South-West of Chanderi, Thruvanji has a number of Jain temples of the early medieval period.
How to Getting there:-
By Air: The nearest airports are at Bhopal (250 km), Gwalior (255 km) and Khajuraho (250).
By Train : Lalitpur (42 km) and Jhansi (134 km) on the Delhi-Chennai and Delhi-Mumbai main line, are the convenient rail-heads. Ashok Nagar (48 km) and Mungaoli (39 km) also serve Chanderi.
By Road : Chanderi is connected by bus with Bhopal (250 km), Gwalior (259 km), Indore (396 km), Guna, Shivpuri, Ashok Nagar, Jhansi, Lalitpur, Tikamgarh, Vidisha and Sanchi.<hr/>
