Mandu Tourism

Mandu : Mandavgarh (Mandu) is located at a distance of about 90 km from the Indore city of Madhya Pradesh. Generally known as Mandu, the town is situated amidst the Vindhya Ranges, at a height of 2000 feet above the ocean level.

Mandu is well-known for its amazing Fort. The fort is 82 km in perimeter and is considered to be the largest in India. It surrounds the ruins of palaces, decorated canals, pavilions, baths etc. It was firstly founded in the 10th century by the Parmar leaders who made it their fort capital.


Jahaz Mahal (Ship Palace): It is one of the famous monuments in Mandu, constructed by Sultan Ghiyas-ud-din-Khilji, son of Mohammed Shah, it served as a harem for the sultan. According to the legends, this harem was home to 15,000 maidens. It located between two artificial lakes on the east and west side of the palace, this two storied architectural marvel is so named as it appears as a ship floatable in water. It is a main tourist attraction and presents many beautiful views and photographic chances. 


Hindola Mahal (Swing Palace): It is near the Jahaz Mahal. It is a large audience hall or darbar supported by sloping buttresses, it gets its name of "swinging palace" from its sloping sidewalls. 


The Darwazas : The wall encompassing Mandu has 12 major gates(darwazas). The present road, through which Mandu is reached, passes through several of these. Also encountered are smaller gateways constructed to give security to the above-mentioned 12 gates.


Rewa Kund : A reservoir built by Baz Bahadur for the reason of providing water to Rani Roopmati's Palace. The reservoir is located below the pavilion and hence is well thought-out an architectural marvel. The Rewa Kund is actually a pool of holy water from the river Rewa, another name for the Narmada.


Baz Bahadur's Palace : It is located below Rani Roopmati�s palace and can see from the palace, Built by Baz Bahadur, this 16th-century construction is well-known for its big courtyard encompassed by big halls and high terraces.


Roopmati's Pavilion : A big stonework structure originally constructed as army observations post it is famous at present as Rani Roopmati's Pavilion. Roopmati Pavalion is situated on the lofty hill to the south beyond the palace of Baz Bahadur stands.Rani Roopmati - the love interest of Baaz Bahadur lived here and is said to have looked at the Baz Bahadur's Palace - located below. The Pavilion is a main visitor attraction and represents many beautiful views.


Hoshang Shah's Tomb : Hoshang Shah�s Tomb is the first or oldest marble structure of India. It is one of the most refined examples of Afghan architecture. It served as a model for the building of Taj Mahal. 


Jami Masjid : The Jami Masjid is the grandest structure in Mandu, built in 1454. The best view of this memorial is from the Ashrafi Mahal rising in front of it.  It is designed after the Omayyad Mosque of Damascus. 


Neelkanth : The Neelkanth Shrine or temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is located on the edge of a deep gorge in Mandu. The shrine has a courtyard and a holy pond fed by a close by stream. There is also the Neelkanth Mahal, dating back to the Mughal period, located near Neelkanth Shrine. 

 


Neelkanth Mahal : Nilkanth Mahal was built by the Mughal Governor, Shah Badgah Khan of the Mughal family. It was built for the Hindu wife of the Mughal ruler, Akbar, close to the Nilkanth Shrine.

How to Getting there:-

By Air: The nearest airport is at Indore (100 km), connected with regular flights from Mumbai, Delhi and Bhopal.

By Train : he nearest raiway station are Indore(100 Km),and Convenient railheads are Ratlam (124 km ) on the Mumbai-Delhi main line.

By Road : Regular bus services connect Mandu with Indore, Dhar, Mhow, Ratlam, Ujjain and Bhopal and Redio Texies are available from Indor and Bhopal.
